How it all began

The very first Women in Hotels Conference was held in 1994, born from a growing demand for a dedicated, inspiring network for women in the hotel sector. The event provided a powerful opportunity to celebrate the vital contribution women make to our industry while also creating pathways to build strong professional connections. That first gathering sparked a tradition of regular events, fostering long-lasting friendships, professional growth, and career development. Today, Women in Hotels has grown into a vibrant community of like-minded professionals, united by the shared goal of achieving success and balance in a dynamic, people-focused industry.

Women in Hotels Network

The Women in Hotels Network works to elevate the visibility and recognition of women in business while raising the profile of female leadership across the hotel and hospitality sector. It provides members with invaluable opportunities to expand and strengthen networks, exchange knowledge and ideas, and access practical training and support.

One of the greatest strengths of the Network is its ability to connect women from both metropolitan and regional South Australia. This exchange of experience and insights enriches not only individual members and businesses but strengthens the hospitality industry as a whole.

Women in Hotels Conference

The Women in Hotels Conference is held every two years and features an engaging program of keynote presentations, workshops, and panel discussions led by respected industry leaders and guest speakers. Each conference invites a high-profile Australian to share their expertise, inspiration, and personal journey, offering valuable perspectives to all attendees. Past keynote speakers have included Ita Buttrose, Dr Rosie King, Heather Swan, Sara Henderson, Dr Fiona Wood, and Dawn Fraser.

Women in Hotels Committee

The Women in Hotels Committee is made up of female AHA|SA members, including hotel owners and managers from across the state. Meeting regularly at rotating venues, the committee is dedicated to advancing the following objectives:

  • Identifying and analysing key issues affecting women in the hotel industry

  • Sharing relevant updates and insights with members

  • Fostering a long-term, supportive professional network

  • Coordinating seminars, forums, and networking opportunities to encourage industry-wide participation

  • Providing considered recommendations to the AHA|SA Council on matters of importance to women in the sector
